The conversion of this beautiful, listed, open-fronted cattle barn into a modern two-bedroom home required a bold yet sensitive design solution due to its Conservation Area setting, multiple levels, and low eaves.

We celebrated the barn’s agricultural heritage by delicately inserting a timber structure into the historic fabric, acting as an organisational device that houses a new staircase and mitigates level changes. In an innovative structural approach, the building’s tilted timber framework was “lifted” back into its original position, complemented by a simple palette of exposed plaster and new timber screens.
